Dargestellt werden die Orte, an denen seit dem 01.01.1970 seismische Ereignisse stattfanden. Die Daten für die Epizentrumsbestimmung liefern Seismometerstationen des Deutschen Regionalnetzes (GRSN) sowie die Messanlagen (englisch Arrays) GERES und Gräfenberg (GRF). Unmittelbar nach Auswertung eines Ereignisses wird es über den WMS angezeigt, sofern die lokale Magnitude ML mit einem Wert von 2,0 oder höher bestimmt wurde. Die Epizentrenbestimmung erfolgt zunächst automatisch. Daher kann es in einigen Fällen zu fehlerhaften Ergebnissen kommen, die sich in der Regel durch ein inkorrektes Epizentrum und eine überschätzte Magnitude äußern. Aus diesem Grund werden die Ergebnisse der automatischen Bestimmung im Rahmen einer manuellen Routineauswertung überprüft und gegebenenfalls korrigiert.
